I was listening to NPR and Ira Plato was talking with his family of scientist. It was an "enlightening" hour and one that I won't forget because they mentioned two things that turned 50 this year..
Inspired by the launch of Sputnik I an act of Congress creating the National Aeronautics Space Administration, NASA was formed in 1958.
Soon after the USA launched it's first satellite Explorer 1.
