Happy 50th!

Sputnik 1

Explorer 1

I was listening to NPR and Ira Plato was talking with his family of scientist. It was an "enlightening" hour and one that I won't forget because they mentioned two things that turned 50 this year..
Inspired by the launch of Sputnik I an act of Congress creating the National Aeronautics  Space Administration, NASA was formed in 1958

Soon after the USA launched it's first satellite Explorer 1.

Soft As A Babies....

My niece Katie had her fourth baby on Wedensday. She had a little boy and they named him Coleman(like the camping gear brand). Katie had admired(may I be so bold to say) the soft baby angora and cashmere wool sweater blankets I make and requested one for her? oh yeah, her new baby... here's to you Coleman!

Cooking has always been an important part of me.
I am not a gadget magnet but when there is a kitchen tool that is really great, I must have it!

This one was given to me by my mother-in-law who doesen't always like to cook.
She was at the Orange County Swap Meet and saw this
gadget and knew that I would love it!

You take your clove of garlic and place it in the yellow tube..roll the tube
and it has de-skined your garlic clove.
Take the clove and rub it around the textured part of plate, it minces it before your eyes!
Brush the minced garlic into what ever you need it for ie:  sauces, butter, olive oil dipping...
It is Awesome!

Mystery Package

I received an interesting and very mysterious package this week.

Even the mail carrier was intrigued by the mailing label from...
  Panevezys, Lithuanaia!
I looked at him with intimidation as I signed the certified mail slip, wondering
who I knew in this country, I was not sure where it was located on a map?

I needed a witness to my demise as I opened the box.(in case there was a bomb or something disastrous enclosed). My husband fit the part.

I opened the box carefully and looked inside...
What was this???
Drugs?
Dead person bones?
Sugar Cane?
It was labeled with Latin words....
I looked on the packing list to get more clues..

Oh!
Yeah!
My Peony Roots!
I had ordered these roots in June..

I had no idea that I had ordered peony roots from Lithuania!
I now have an exclusive peony garden.

I must plant them now! :)

Fifty

I can't stop thinking about the big 50. In fact, I think I maybe settling into it.
I can't stop it, I can't put time in reverse, so the best thing to do is embrace it
 for with a positive outlook!

Here are a few things you might consider when you reach FIFTY.

I found comfort from those in the same circumstances.

Find those "Things" that make you feel great...

Tomato Season

What to do with a solanum lycopersicum... a tomato.

My late summer harvest of these red and yellow, green beauties seems to be very plentiful. I planted six plants, a combination of beef steak size and mellow yellows, cherries, tomatillos, and your regular garden variety tomato.  Here is just a small platter of what mother nature produced!

I will make sauces, caprice salads, salsa and whatever I can create!
Next year..I think I'll plant a vintage purple!

I'm back and WOW..

Here is what I saw and found in Paris, ( aka: sin city..Las Vegas)

I walked over 10 miles looking at humankind. That in itself is most fascinating yet repulsive. I couldn't possibly take pictures of that..I want to remember the beauty that lies within that busy, crazy, drunk city.

I took the opportunity to peek inside the Winn Hotel.
It's design is crazy fun and bright colors.
This reminds me of the  60's Flower Power.
Carpet
Ceiling
Mosaic tile floors

It also reminded me of a fun and wonderful graphic designer .

Can you see the inspiration..(I don't know where she got hers.. but very floral, I love it!)
