joel dewberry fabrics

I was perusing
 thru my new
American Patchwork & Quilting magazine
and noticed this ad
for a beautiful
fabric line by:
joel dewberry.
Wow what talent.

Now to find, where
his textiles
are sold in Utah...
He is a BYU graduate.
You would think
 with all
the fabric stores
 here in Utah..
someone would carry his line.

           The search is on!

Here are a few of his fabrics made into darling
little girl clothes.
 The designer is: Eva Taylor

I want one...

In my back yard!

My husband and I have been talking lately of building a "guest-bungalow" in our upper back yard. This would be for grandchildren and girl-late-nights or sleep overs.
Check this site out, their homes are adorable and their mobile!  www.tumbleweedhouses.com

The gathering...

Today I am having a sewing day at my home. My sister and I have offered our experience to those who want to learn to sew or who may need a little help or support with sewing..ie: clothes, crafts, quilts, or whatever.. I have a few projects to work on myself:

1. Thirties block party quilt. (my block is due on Saturday)

2. A Christmas block for my Joanne's Fabric quilt class.

3. The first block for my American Quilting block of the month class.

4. A dress that I have almost finished except for the button holes.

5. Three unfinished baby quilts(need to be tyed) for LDS Humanitarian Center.

WOW..Whew!

Utah Celebrates.. July 24th

                                              Wagon Train

Today Brigham Young announced to the weary pioneers that                                                                      "This is The Right Place"
as he looked over the Salt Lake Valley 161 years ago.

I am a descendant of several of the families that made their way west, back in the mid 1800's.
I pay tribute to those great and strong people that made the desert bloom into what Utah is today!

Here are a few Minerva Teichart prints to inspire you.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Indian Attack

                                                                                        Wash Day

Zucchini Season

It is time to harvest that green long neck squash...zucchini.  I like to pick while the squash is still young small and tender NOT the mammoth size I see people pick.

Today I made a delicious Zucchini Bisque
Here is the recipe:

4c. chicken stock
1 med. white onion (I picked mine from the garden.) Chopped
2 cloves garlic minced
1/2 c. butter
4 small-med zucchini's chopped
3 med potato's peeled and diced
1/3 c. chopped herbs, I added these from my garden: parsley, chives, oregano.
(add ones that you like.)
2/3 c. half & half

Simmer butter and onions, garlic until translucent.
Add chicken broth
Simmer for 5 mins.
Add chopped zucchini potato's and herbs

Cook on med heat for 20 mins. cover pan.

Cool for two hours

Pour into blender(you might have to add 1/2 of mixture at a time.)

Pour into pan add half & half
Stir and simmer for 10 mins.

Enjoy..Yum

More Leftie Stuff.

Here is another excerpt of Frank DeFords commentary on NPR:

"Whereas only about 10% of the whole human population is lefty, you see, while lefties moan that the world at large discriminates against them-even though in modern times we usually find ourselves ruled by the, i.e. southpaw President Truman, Ford, Reagan, Bush the elder and Clinton (and yes, two guys named McCain and Obama")

I am Proud to be a Left Hander!

NPR's Frank DeFord on "Lefties"

I was listening last week to NPR when by the sheer luck, sports commentator, Frank DeFord did this piece on lefties in the sports world. I must say that he did indeed enlighten the right handed universe on how south paws rule in the sports world.

Here is just a snippet of one outstanding athlete who won Wimbledon this year..Rafael Nadal

Notice the dominant  left handFrank Wrote:
"In tennis, the ball spins differently off a left-hander's racket. Hello, Rafael Nadal. Roger Federer's shots that go to a fellow right -hander's weakness, bounce right into Nadal's wheelhouse. So, Nadal comes from distinguished lefty linage-Laver, McEnroe, Conners, Navratilova. Somebody once wrote that John McEnroe would be just another losing quarterfinalist if he were right-handed. McEnroe was furious. Of course, if there'd been a fight, he surely would have battered the writer."

More on Franks' comments soon.

You Know Your 50 When....

My daughters seem to think I need to read this book.
I am told almost on a daily basis that what I wear, eat, think, say, do, act, anything that is about me, is... WRONG!
I have tried not to let this affect my ego..but as I age into my 50's it does seem to others(especially those 3 daughters that live with me) that I have faults and seem to be falling apart. I am, quote: "strange" to them, unquote.
Is this hostile environment, it makes it very difficult to endure the aging process ....your own flesh and blood turning against you? I think I have only "A FEW Things Wrong With Me."

You are cordially invited to a 50th Birthday Party!

In honor of AARP"s 50th anniversary I hereby proclaim:
 "50 is the new 50."
And when this party is over, I guarantee you'll never think of the Big 5-oh the same way again.

Ellen DeGeneres (January 26) Never shy about saying "This is who I am," the irrepressible DeGeneres says she can't wait for the big day. "I'm excited about turning 50."

Sharon Stone (March 10) She's never pulled punches about aging and delights in speaking out about the upside.

Michelle Pfeiffer (April 29)" aging is universal, once you accept it, it unburdens you."

Prince (June 7) His purple badness, pompadour and high heels intact, is still a prolific one-man band, perpetually cranking out CD's-with a tamer content now that he's become a Jehovah's Witness.

Madonna (August 16) She keeps her body age-defyingly ripped and ready to dance with tough workouts that include Ashtanga yoga, and a diet of fish, grains and veggies. For fun, search on Web for "Madonna's 50th Birthday Countdown Clock" (which you can download to your desktop!)

Viggo Mortensen (October 20) Fluent in four languages, this Danish American Renaissance man is also a poet, photographer, painter. "Life is short", he once said. "I like to pay attention while I'm going through it."

Disney Radio Gig..

Here are some pictures of Dallas doing her thing for Disney Radio, (the night of the Miley Cyrus concert.)
She did not get to go backstage and meet Miley...(boo h00) but

Carole King

My sister Jeana suggested that I blog about Carole King.  Her hit album in 1971 was Tapestry. I can't really say how I became such a "groupie" of her, but I nearly made my family go crazy with the constant playing, re-playing and re-playing of this particular album.

I would dance and sing for hours in the front room of our home listening to this album on our Motorola Stereo. I got to go to many of her concerts and still love to listen and sing to Carole King.
In case you are or were a FAN of Carole, here are the songs that were on that album:

I Feel the Earth Move
So Far Away
It's Too Late
Home Again
Beautiful
Way Over Yonder
You've Got a Friend
Where You Lead
Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?
Smackwater Jack
Tapestry
(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman

BYU Soccer Camp-Here comes Dallas..

Today is the start of a four day athletic training for Dallas. Brigham Young University is the venue and it will be in the mid to high 90's this week. Dallas has played soccer since she was 4 years old. She is 13 years old and will in in 8th grade. She plays on the Celtic Storm Club team and her position is outside mid and sometimes forward. Her dream is to play for the USC Girls Soccer Team.

I will miss her...but I know exactly what I will be doing for the next four days!   SEWING!!

Proud Parent Moment..

Dallas is in the middle holding the winning Miley Cyrus Concert tickets. The girls on the side of her are Disney Dancers, the kids above are the finalists.

Ok, sorry in advance but I have to brag a little...
My daughter Dallas auditioned to be a "Kidcaster" for Comcast Cable TV/Disney Radio.
She won and now will be going to the Miley Cyrus concert tonight at the Stadium of Fire right here in little Provo, Utah.
She will be interviewing fans that come to see Miley. It will air on Disney Radio tonight and then will be televised later on Comcast TV.

She is so excited..she won five tickets for the concert!
Congrats to Dallas and have a fun moment of stardom.

Ready Set for the 4th of July

HAPPY 4th of JULY!

I want my neighbors and others that pass by my home to know  I am proud to be an American citizen, so I fly my colors and salute the flag. Here in Provo, Utah we have the Freedom Festival with a whole lot of events to participate in. Provo has had a parade as long as I can remember..(that would be 50 That's how old I am - 6 yrs old, that is when I start to remember the parade.= 44 yrs.)  Utahan's in general are patriotic, since the majority are LDS(mormons)which believe that God preserved this country to be a beacon of freedom and liberty for all who would settle here and worship as they please.
I am going today to "colonial days" downtown Provo to browse and see some revolutionary memorabilia.
Dallas will be auditioning for a "Kidcaster" spot on Comcast TV & Radio Disney. Wish her luck!
