Swirly Skirt From the 1970's

My mom could sew anything and I mean anything! I asked her to sew me this really BOSS skirt pattern that I saw while browsing through the pattern books back in 1972. I was in 8th grade, I was 14 years old. That was 36 years ago..(that makes me 50 years old today!)

Here is the pattern I saw

Here is Thee " Groovey" swirly shirt my mom made me
(I loved it so much I have kept it in a cedar chest.)

Let Talk Ironing

I do believe that ironing is a lost domestic art.  I started when I was the young age of 10 years. My mom believed in ironing and seemed to only buy 100% cotton clothing. I started out ironing pillow cases, pillow cases that had hand embroidery, or lace. I had a spray bottle of water and and can of spray starch. I would watch TV as I ironed and would fold each pillow case in a neat square when finished. I took pride in the work.
Today I iron all my 100% cotton, linen blouses. I send my husbands white shirts to be laundered and ironed.
I do find some kind of fulfillment in doing this task...Go Figure!

PS- This is a great way to dry those curlers you just set!
PSS-Take note- woman is ironing left handed..

Bumper crop of strawberries

Look at what I just picked from my garden..YUM!

Can Cousins Be Siblings?

These two twin cousins were born 2 years apart and with different genders, both share the same last name..they look more like siblings than their blood siblings..that GENE POOL is STRONG!

South Paw Sewing

I found this cute book. I really liked the illustrations!

Let me say that growing up in a family that is predominately "right handers" has created some challenges for me. My mother was an excellent seamstress and wanted to pass along her love of sewing to her daughters. I remember when I was in Junior High school I took a basic sewing class, I made a pair of shorts with an elastic waist band.
My mother at the time thought that I could tackle a much larger project so, we bought a dress pattern and fabric which included putting in an invisible zipper! This project deteriorated my relationship with right handed mom. I remember being very impatient and hating sewing.
My mom was frustrated with my unwillingness to learn and so the sewing thing came to a halt.
Now Zoom ahead 37 years to present day where the "lefty" now loves to sew and has even taught a few right handers to "push the pedal."

Colorful Beauty

Today it will reach a high of 93 degrees. My flowers are loving it though, the colors are incredible, mother nature is so creative and very sharing with her beautiful creations. I have told many people that in the after life I want to be on her creating committee.  I have a few ideas I could throw out for consideration.  But then..there are so many beauties, it would be difficult to create one that does not already exists.

Beautifying My Garden..

Utah provides a wonderful environment of growing plants that I have only dreamed of growing in Southern Calif.  For example:   Lilacs..I planted two varieties last fall and they both are doing great, next season I should witness a delicious smell out my front door.
But this is what I just ordered from:

What will I do this summer???

I'm looking outside at the moment as I type and see that we are in for another rain storm. I believe Utah is no longer in a drought. We have had a record breaking snow fall this winter, backed by a heavy rain fall this spring.
When talking with the "locals" they seem to think Utah has never been GREENER, I'm not talking environmentally, I'm talking the color GREEN
 It is gorgeous here.

I don't think I will leave Utah for any looong vacation this summer...

But this does tempt me some...

New Word

Vocabulary 101:
Today I heard this word on a NPR report about the Napa Valley
Wine Festival, the word is:
glitterati: npl
famous, rich or fashionable people thought of as a group,
especially those who are frequently photographed by the press

glitterati: beautifully wrapped tiny Italian fruit candies are perfect to savor when your throat is dry and easy to keep in your pocket or purse. Each little jewel is bursting with flavor and contains on 4 calories.
Flavors include: grape, cherry, lime, and lemon.

Ok, searching the web on this word I learned more than I ever will or want too!
I thought you might like to see some examples....

Getting Ready for the 4th

My version of flags

Picture from the Pottery Barn catalog

It's never to late to get ready for any holiday. I especially love the 4th of July.

I seriously keep my eyes wide open for ideas.  I have notebooks full of ideas and patterns, instructions, diagrams, templates etc. (I have a bona-a-fide illness....so my kids say). I saw this picture in Pottery Barn catalog and knew that I needed to make this for my back yard festivities on the 4th.
